Private Advisory

Private Advisory is a one-on-one engagement for founders, CEOs, owners, and accomplished professionals facing consequential decisions. Engagements usually begin with a 12-week term, take place mostly virtually, and start with a private diagnostic.

01

When the Problem Can't Be Handled in Pieces

Some of the people who reach out to me have a full bench of good advisors. Their attorney, their accountant, their board, and sometimes a therapist are each doing their job well. Others built something so fast they haven't had time to assemble one. Either way, what's usually missing is someone whose job is to look at the whole situation with them, the business and the person together, and help them decide what to do.

That's the role I take on in Private Advisory.

02

The leaders I work with are founders, CEOs, owners, public-facing leaders, accomplished professionals, and younger founders whose success came faster than their experience. They're facing decisions that reach across their work and their life at the same time. It might involve business structure, reputation, legal exposure, institutional design, family pressure, commercial strategy, leadership, or the next stage of a career. Usually it's more than one.

I don't replace anyone on your team. I work where their work meets, helping you see how the pieces relate, where the real problem sits, and what needs to happen next.

03

How I Work

01

Listening

I listen first, and I take my time doing it. I ask direct questions, read the documents, and try to understand the history, the people, the pressures, the resources you have, and the decision in front of you.

02

Mapping it out

Then we map it out together: what's visible, what's being avoided, what's been misunderstood, and what's likely to happen if nothing changes.

03

Building the path

Agreeing with you isn't always the most useful thing I can do, so when I see it differently, I'll tell you. From there, we build a path forward, including the decisions, the sequence, the language, the structure, and the support you'll need to act on it.

04

What the Relationship Can Include

  • A weekly working session
  • Direct access between scheduled meetings
  • Review of plans, financial information, contracts, correspondence, presentations, and strategic materials
  • Participation in selected meetings
  • Decision preparation and post-decision review
  • Monthly and quarterly review cycles
  • Coordination with your existing legal, financial, operational, and communications advisors
  • Implementation support
  • A fractional or embedded role when the work requires it

Most engagements begin with a 12-week term. That's long enough to understand the problem, make the important decisions, and see whether those decisions are working.

We'll agree on access and response times at the start. If your situation calls for near-immediate availability, we can set that up.

05

What I Take On

  • Strategic clarity and complex problem-solving
  • Business and entity architecture
  • Protecting the person behind the role
  • Commercial strategy
  • Reputation-sensitive decisions
  • Institutional structure
  • Leadership pressure
  • Career transition and succession
  • Legacy design
  • Problems that don't fit one professional category

Whatever brings you here, the heart of the work is the same: my direct attention on you and the situation you're in.

06

Protection

When I talk about protection, I mean more than legal protection. I mean protection from weak structures, exposure you never deliberately accepted, bad counsel, preventable mistakes, public pressure, and a business that leans too heavily on its founder.

It also means protection from your own capacity.

Highly capable people can hold a bad structure together for a long time. They solve every emergency, absorb every decision, and say yes to every new responsibility. Because their competence keeps things running, the system keeps sending more back to them, and eventually the strength itself becomes part of the risk.

Part of my work is helping leaders see that cycle early, before it wears them down and costs their family and the future the work was meant to build.

00A serious fit
01

Who This Is For

  • You have already built something meaningful, or have a credible path toward it
  • You are facing a consequential problem or transition
  • You have the resources to act on what we decide
  • You want clear judgment more than applause
  • You can listen, disagree, and still consider what's been said
  • You understand what serious professional help costs
  • You are ready to make decisions and follow through

Strong personalities, complicated situations, and disagreement are all fine. You don't need to be polished. You do need to be serious about doing something.

02

Who This Isn't For

  • Are looking for a discount
  • Want quick validation for an idea that isn't developed yet
  • Have ambition without traction or a credible path toward it
  • Want to be heard but aren't willing to listen
  • Expect someone else to take responsibility for acting
  • Need a therapist, attorney, accountant, crisis service, or other specialist more than a strategic advisor

If another kind of help would serve you better, I'll tell you directly and point you toward it.

09

Premium and Selective

This is premium advisory work, and I keep it small on purpose. Each relationship takes real access, preparation, and focused attention, and I can only give that to a limited number of people at once.

I don't take on a client just because they can pay. The person, the problem, the timing, and the ability to act all have to fit. The work has to be worth doing, for both of us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Private Advisory?

It's a one-on-one engagement for leaders facing a decision that touches both the business and their life. I work alongside the advisors you already have, help you see the whole situation, and stay with you through the decisions and the follow-through.

Who is it for?

Founders, CEOs, owners, public-facing leaders, and accomplished professionals, including younger founders whose success came faster than their experience. Most have already built something meaningful and have the resources to act.

How long does an engagement last?

Most begin with a 12-week term. That's long enough to understand the problem, make the important decisions, and see whether those decisions are working.

Do we have to meet in person?

No. Most of my work happens virtually, so I can work with leaders wherever they are. When the situation calls for it, I'll travel.

How is this different from executive coaching or consulting?

A coach usually focuses on the leader, and a consultant usually focuses on the organization. I look at both together, because the problems my clients bring rarely separate cleanly. I also coordinate with your attorney, accountant, and other advisors so their work fits together.

What does it cost?

Fees depend on the scope and level of access involved. We'll talk through scope and terms after the diagnostic, before anything begins.
